An affordable rent case study: Sunha & Asif

New residents celebrate life in their new homes

Clarion Housing Group’s Beaconsfield Road scheme in Walthamstow is built on the site of the former Francis House care home.

The development has a total of 30 homes which are all for either shared ownership and affordable rent. The scheme is mixture of smaller apartments and over ten larger two storey family homes.

Sunha Khan and her family previously rented a small flat from the local authority before moving to their new four bedroom home at the development.

She said: “Where I lived before was very cramped, which meant my children didn’t have their own space. We didn’t even have enough room for cupboards, so we had to keep my daughter’s clothes in boxes.

Now they have their own rooms, which gives them plenty of privacy and has allowed them to put their own stamp on it.

We also have nice garden and the kids come back from school every day very excited to be able to play out there.

I still can’t believe I’m here in my new home – it’s lovely here. And the neighbours are all lovely as well.”

Asif Hussain, 38, and his family moved into a three bedroom home at the development having spent a number of years in over crowded accommodation near Whipps Cross.

He said: “My kids are absolutely delighted to be in their new home. They have been very excited and I have had lots of requests from them about how they want to do the garden and what furniture they would like me to buy. It’s very nice and peaceful here, and it has very good transport links.
